28,1969)
was an American soldier and politician. As a Republican he was
elected the 34th President of the United States (1953–1961).
During World War II he served as Supreme Commander of the Allied forces
in Europe with the rank of General of the Army, and in 1949 he became
the first supreme commander of NATO.
